"I became fascinated by the diagnostic puzzles of clinical neurology after reading Oliver Sacks’ neurological tales during medical school. While I still enjoy diagnostic challenges, building long-term relationships with patients has proven to be the most fulfilling aspect of my medical career. I truly love getting to know my patients as individuals apart from their health concerns. I listen carefully, quickly establish rapport and put my patients at ease during what can be a scary time. My strong relationships are based upon collaboration with my patients as well as their family members, caregivers, and other health care providers."
Dr. Tanya Fatimi grew up in the seaside village of Bellport on Long Island, the daughter of two physician parents. She completed her undergraduate studies at Yale University in 1996 where she received a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry. She graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2001 where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was awarded a distinction in research. During medical school, she spent additional clinical time in Botswana during its HIV/AIDS epidemic and at her mother’s alma mater, the renowned Christian Medical College in Vellore, India studying neurological infectious diseases.
She completed all her post-graduate medical studies at Columbia University. After a rigorous internal medicine internship caring for medically complex patients, Dr. Fatimi trained at one of the top neurological programs in the country, The Neurological Institute, where her peers elected her Chief Resident in her senior year. Following her residency, she undertook additional training in Clinical Neurophysiology, specializing in neuromuscular disease and electromyography. During her fellowship, she co-authored two book chapters in written and online textbooks.
She is board certified in Neurology since 2006 and has subspecialty board certification in Neuromuscular Diseases. Currently, she is an attending neurologist at Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health. She has taught clinical neurology to countless medical students and residents as Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical Center and at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Dr. Fatimi has extensive experience in all aspects of general neurology including headache, movement disorders, neuromuscular diseases and memory issues. She is particularly interested in the neurological issues of geriatric populations. She works together with patients and their families to help them live with dignity while addressing quality of life, aging in place issues, and long term care issues. Women’s neurology is another area of particular interest particularly related to headache and hormonal changes.
Dr. Fatimi has been named a Castle Connelly Top Doctor since 2015 and has been featured in New York Magazine. She is a “doctor’s doctor”—several of her medical colleagues have entrusted her with their own neurological care as well as their relatives’ care. Privacy is a priority for Dr. Fatimi and her staff where patients are cared for with utmost discretion, quietly, efficiently, and without a crowded waiting room.
She is available for ongoing neurological care, consultations, and second opinions. Please inquire with our staff regarding house calls within New York City and Westchester. Early morning and evening appointments can be arranged on a case-by-case basis. She holds a Florida telemedicine license.
Dr. Fatimi resides north of New York City with her husband, teenage daughter, son, and her Welsh Springer Spaniel. In her free time, she is an avid gardener, tennis player, member of her community choir, and trustee of her local library.

Avi M.She was absolutely great, very patient and thorough in making sure she got my entire past medical history. Very confident and smart doctor would definitely see her again.
Elaine L.Dr. Fatimi was professional, yet warm. She made me feel very comfortable and was completely clear in her explanations about what she thought. While she was fairly sure about her diagnosis based on her office exam of me, I appreciated that she sent me for a CT test to fully confirm her thoughts and rule out any possible complications. I feel fortunate to have found her during a condition I was a bit worried about. She put my mind at ease, yet was honest. I felt I was in very capable hands and would highly recommend.
Emily M.Loved Dr. Fatimi! Her bedside manner is so calming and positive. She helped me come to a diagnosis and was great with making sure all options were looked into for other procedures and medications. The staff in the office was also very lovely and helpful. Would definitely recommend Dr. Fatimi.
Mckenna P.Dr Fatimi was great - she was very thorough and reviewed all of my medical history from start to finish. She also requested my prior scans/tests to ensure she is providing the most accurate recommendations moving forward.
Emmett S.Dr. Fatimi is friendly, knowledgable, answers questions, is calm, and a very quick diagnostician. Not only did she respond to my questions, but asked careful and precise questions of her own. It was a real pleasure going to the appointment. Her expertise and kindness were heartily appreciated. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an outstanding neurologist.
AnonymousDr. Fatimi struck me as a very sharp and intelligent person. The questions she asked me seemed thought out and methodical. She also wrote down my answers, which made me feel like she was really absorbing what I was saying, which some doctors don't do. She prescribed me medication for my migraines and already it has stopped three migraines in their tracks! She has prevented me from having my usual 24 hour migraines and I'm so thankful for her. I recommend her for sure, her bedside manner is gentle but you really get the feeling that she is so intelligent and trustworthy.
Thomas C.I had a concussion from a snowboarding accident and Dr. Fatimi was a comfort to have for an injury where the scariest thing is not knowing the severity. She had a great bedside manner and was patient in explaining additional symptoms that might arise. As the symptoms were still in the early stages, we monitored it for a few days to determine whether additional steps needed to be taken. She was super helpful in providing me with a number to contact her just in case and she called a few days later just to make sure I was doing well!
Sherrilyn B.She is an awesome doctor. she was VERY welcoming and warm. she made me feel very comfortable which is hard to find in a doctor these days. she was very thorough with the examination, took the time to listen and was very informative with her diagnosis. LOVE her! her staff was also very friendly as well, love this office
Todd Anthony B.Dr. Fatimi masterfully connects with her patients in order to better understand his/her needs. After tests, she excellently communicates her recommendations and explores all viable options.
Debra G.Highly Recommended! I have been seeing Dr. Fatimi for years and can't imagine seeing any other neurologist. Dr. Fatimi is compassionate, knowledgable and patient. She takes her time to listen, diagnose and is very thorough. She answers all my (many, many) questions and provides resources and recommendations when needed. The office staff is helpful, responsive and kind. I highly recommend Dr. Fatimi.
Nicole C.Attentive and supportive doctor! Dr. Fatimi supported me over the last eight years and early on she identified the symptoms I was managing that other doctors did not. I'm grateful for her care, expertise, and how she makes her patients feel comfortable and heard.
Verified patientExtraordinary Doctor! Dr. Fatimi treats me for Parkinson’s. She is not only a skillful diagnostician and practitioner, she is also caring, patient, and most impressive of all, smart and humble enough to treat the patient as her partner. An appointment with her is something I look forward to, rather than dread!
Suzanne S.Competent, thorough and understanding Telehealth. The last visit was a telehealth visit, though I have been seeing Dr Fatimi for 6 years. My condition is quite puzzling, so having someone who knows the science is critical. And she does consider all possibilities and all the interventions that should be explored. Whether in-person or on video, she spends time, listens, and thinks through the treatment plan. Also, her office staff are friendly and responsive. Lately, at many of my other doctors' offices it is nearly impossible to get through on the phone, and wait times for appointments are months. We don't see that here. I come from an hour+ away for my appointments and have not considered changing to a different physician as I do trust Dr Fatimi.
Jill R.Great Dr! I was fortunate enough to find Dr Fatimi after my former neurologist, retired. She is an extremely thorough, brilliant Dr, who is a great listener, empathic, and thorough. She leaves no stone unturned, is extremely responsive and an absolute pleasure. Dr Fatimi takes her time, answers questions thoroughly and has great follow up. Her office staff is also lovely.I am extremely picky when it comes to doctors and would be more than happy to refer her to anyone seeking an exceptional neurologist.
JimDr Fatimi started treating me years ago for an autoimmune system issue, the office staff was polite and professional. As for Dr Fatimi I can not say enough, she is knowledgeable, professional, caring and compassionate. She took the time to explain my condition and addressed any concerns that were had by myself prior to my surgery and that still continues with each follow up visit . I can not praise her enough and I know I can be a difficult patient.
Jill G.Wonderful doctor! Dr. Fatimi is a wonderful/caring doctor who has helped me over the years with several different neurological issues. She is very thorough, competent and caring. In addition, her office staff is a pleasure to deal with and they have great follow through.I am grateful to be a patient at this practice.
Verified patientDr. Fatimi began treating me for right shoulder and right scapula pain in January 2023. She conducted a thorough examination during my initial visit and and prescribed a plan going forward which included medications to alleviate the pain as well as physical therapy. Through this combination the pain subsided over time and today I am pain free. Dr. Fatimi is a caring and attentive health care provider who asks a lot of probing questions to help diagnose the issue(s) and schedules follow-up visits to determine if the going forward plan needs to be adjusted. I consider myself fortunate to have been treated by Dr. Fatimi and highly recommend her practice.
CathleenGreat Doctor!! I have been seeing Dr. Fatimi for over 10 years. When I originally came to see her I was having chronic daily migraines that presented with unusual symptoms. It was challenging to diagnosis and find the right course of treatment. I had been to multiple specialists trying to figure out what was wrong for several months. She worked with me to find the right regiment to manage my condition with the least medications and related side effects. She is very thorough and treats the whole patient not just individual symptoms. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a good neurologist.
Verified patientLove Dr. Fatimi! I went to Dr. Fatimi when I was experiencing constant headaches with no solution in sight. She helped me to find out what was causing them and continued to help me deal with other issues that are even outside of her responsibility. Dr. Fatimi has a wonderful bedside manner and you do feel that she is listening and really cares. She is one of my favorite doctors and I highly recommend her.
